Benefits of Massage

Approaches to Massage

A good massage practitioner will be proficient in many techniques, and tailor the session to each individual.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is a system of long strokes, kneading, and friction techniques used on the more superficial layers of muscle. Used with passive joint movements, Swedish massage promotes relaxation, improves circulation. and increases range of motion.

Acupressure

Acupressure is an Oriental technique of finger pressure applied to acupuncture points along the 14 major meridians of the body. The aim of acupressure is to unblock and re-balance energy flow throughout the body. Western thought has it that this energy is nerve related, the Chinese call it “Chi.”

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is used for chronic deep seated patterns of tension in structures far below the surface of the body. Techniques may include cross-fiber and trigger point therapy.

Sports Massage

Sports massage is a combination of the above techniques applied either pre-event, to increase performance and lessen the chance of injury, or post event, to speed the elimination of metabolic waste from the muscles, reduce soreness, and speed recovery.

All massage times are by appointment only. Please call our front desk to book your appointment.  Sierra welcomes members and nonmembers.

Massage interrupts our pre-programmed stress causing response – the “fight or flight syndrome” – a leftover piece of evolutionary baggage that was once quite useful, but now often produces unwanted anxiety in our modern lives.

What to Wear

The massage practitioner should be sensitive to your level of modesty. Proper draping will only expose the area being massaged, while keeping the rest of the body covered and warm. If you have further concerns about this, feel free to bring shorts, bathing suit top, or whatever will allow you to relax and get the most from your massage experience.
