Teresa Samstag-Haug

Teresa was born in Barcelona, Spain. She grew up at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona 1899, home of the Masters 500 where a lot of the Spanish players grew up trained and train. She was a national ranked player representing Spain in different European competitions and also later became the coach of some of those teams.

She also holds a 5-year degree in Liberal Studies from the Universidad Autonoma de Barcelona (Bellaterra). Before coming to the US in 1984, she was the first female tennis instructor at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona for ten years, having in their Tennis school, players like Arantxa Sanchez and Carlos Costa (Rafa Nadal’s agent) among others.
Teresa stresses how important is technique (proper grips, swings) and footwork for the development of a player. She grew up under the Spanish method of developing players.

Here in Fresno she has taught at Fresno Racquet Time, 1984-1986, Fig Garden Swim and Racquet Club, 1986-1990, privately 1990-1995, Copper River Country Club,1995-2000 and Sierra Sport and Racquet Club as an independent contractor 2000 to present. She has over 40 years of teaching experience. She was certified in Spain by the Real Federacion EspaƱola de Tenis and in the US by the USPTA since 1985.
